Golf is where business relationships get built. Cost, equipment and etiquette keep students out of it. We remove all three.

The value

Golf is the only sport where the game is the conversation

Four hours walking beside three other people. That is why firms entertain clients on courses and why so many careers are made on them. Those hours are open to any student who joins the club, regardless of experience.

01

Access at student cost

Clubs, coaching and a course ten minutes from campus, at prices a student can pay. You do not need equipment, a handicap, or any idea what you are doing.

02

Rooms you would not otherwise be in

We put students and professionals in the same flight. Not a stand at a careers fair. An afternoon, on foot, where the conversation is the point.

03

Something to represent

A selected squad carries Nova SBE against other universities in Portugal and abroad. For the players who want it, this is a real competitive season.

Our mission

Everyone gets one first swing that does not count

Our mission is to make golf genuinely accessible to every Nova SBE student, regardless of experience, budget or background. Golf is one of the most useful rooms in business and one of the hardest for a student to get into: a round costs more than a night out, the equipment costs more than a semester of textbooks, and the etiquette is unwritten, which means the only way to learn it is to already know someone who plays.

We exist to remove those barriers. We negotiate rates, we provide clubs, and we run formats where a beginner and a single-figure player can finish the same afternoon without either of them wishing they had not come.

Our vision is a club where picking up a club for the first time and representing Nova SBE competitively both belong on the same calendar. What that buys a student is not a hobby. It is the ability to accept an invitation. When a firm suggests a round, you can say yes, and you know what to do when you get there.

What is confirmed

We publish an event once the venue and the date are locked, and not before. Everything else in the season is listed below without a date, because a date we cannot hold is worse than no date at all.

These are the events we intend to run

Dates go up roughly six weeks out, once a venue is held. Follow us on Instagram if you want to know the moment one opens.

Formats

What actually happens at each kind of event

Clinic

Two hours, no pressure

A coach, a bucket of balls and borrowed clubs. You stand on a range, not a course, so nobody is waiting behind you. This is where most of our members start.

Scramble

Teams of four, one ball

Everyone hits, the team plays the best shot, everyone plays again from there. A beginner in the group is an asset, because they only need one good shot a hole.

Simulator

Indoors and scored for you

A screen, a mat and a launch monitor. Cheap, weatherproof, and the easiest way to run something competitive with no handicaps involved.

Stroke play

Everyone counts their own shots

The real thing, and what the competitive squad plays. We only use it for tournaments, because it takes five hours and rewards experience heavily.

Competitive squad

The golf team

The one part of the club that is not open to everyone. A selected squad carrying Nova SBE's name against other universities.

The squad plays stroke play under a recognised handicap. We select on the course: this season's first team was chosen at the Road to Milan tryout, the 9 hole round at Swing & Sip on 15 October, watched by a selection panel of committee members who are not trying out.

If you play off a handicap and would like to be considered for the squad, email us your current index, your latest official scores and where you play, and we will still consider you.

University circuit eligibility is still being confirmed.

For the Bocconi & Friends Golf Cup you need an official handicap. For the university circuits, whether a World Handicap System index earned outside Portugal is accepted, or a Portuguese federation licence is required, affects international and masters students directly. We will publish the answer here rather than guess at it.

A full day at Centro Nacional de Formação de Golf Jamor. Partner firms bring a team, Nova students fill the rest of each flight, and everyone eats together afterwards. Scramble format, so nobody at the table needs to be good at golf.

Why the scramble format matters to you

In a scramble the team plays the best shot each time. It means a student who has never played can be in your group without slowing the day down, and it means your representative is not stuck watching someone struggle for four hours. Everybody talks the whole way round, which is the entire point.

How to start

Your first round, step by step

This is the actual process at Centro Nacional de Formação de Golf Jamor, our partner course, not a rough guide.

Bookings will open soon.

Follow us on Instagram to hear first.

01

Verify

When bookings open, you fill in a short form with your Nova email and student ID. We check that it is a real @novasbe.pt address before anything is issued.

02

Get your code

A confirmation email arrives with a single-use code. It expires the moment it is used, so a screenshot from a friend will not work — each student verifies their own.

03

Show up and book

Bring the code and your student ID to Centro Nacional de Formação de Golf Jamor. €19 for a round, €10 for the driving range, any time, in or out of an NGC event. €15 for the beginner class: a putting lesson, driving range practice and a basket of balls. Clubs are provided for the beginner class only; accessible club rental is available otherwise. Once a booking is confirmed it is not refundable, so check the date before you send it.

Privacy policy

Nova Golf Club website. Version 1.0 | Last updated 26 October 2026.

Scope

This privacy policy applies to the processing of personal data of visitors to and users of the Nova Golf Club website and of people who contact the Nova Golf Club through it.

Who are we?

Nova Golf Club is a registered student club of Nova SBE Students’ Union, with tax number 501 662 219, located in Campus de Carcavelos, Rua da Holanda 1, 2775-405 Carcavelos.

Nova SBE Students’ Union is the controller of the personal data processed in connection with the Nova Golf Club activities, within the meaning given to that expression in data protection legislation.

What are the purposes of the processing?

We process personal data for the following purposes:

  1. Operating the website and keeping it secure, including delivering the website’s pages to your device through the automatic processing of technical data such as your IP address, browser and device information, as well as detecting and preventing misuse, attacks and technical faults;
  2. Responding to enquiries from companies and other organisations by processing the information you choose to send us, to reply to you and, where applicable, to discuss and conclude sponsorship or partnership arrangements;
  3. Presenting the Nova Golf Club committee by publishing names, roles, photographs and social media profile links;
  4. Sharing the Nova Golf Club activities and events, for example by publishing photographs taken at events;
  5. Selecting players for the club’s competitive squad during tryouts, where a panel of committee members assesses participants’ capability;
  6. Organising and managing events and tryouts.

Any further use of personal data for a different purpose will be assessed against the criteria set out in Article 6(4) of the GDPR.

You are not legally obliged to provide your personal data. However, where information is needed to achieve the purposes above, we will not be able to do so without it.

What is the legal basis for the processing?

The processing of personal data by Nova SBE Students’ Union is based on the following legal grounds:

  • the legitimate interests pursued by the Nova SBE Students’ Union or by third parties, namely the interest in ensuring the operation and security of the website, selecting players for the club’s competitive squad and replying to the enquiries received, including, where applicable, to discuss and conclude sponsorship or partnership arrangements, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require the protection of personal data;
  • the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party, or steps taken at the data subject’s request before entering into a contract for the purposes of organising and managing events and tryouts;
  • the consent of committee members to publish their photograph for the purposes of presenting the Nova Golf Club committee, and the consent of students to capture and publish their image for the purposes of sharing club activities and events.

Where none of the other legal grounds is suitable to support the processing, Nova SBE Students’ Union will only process personal data if it has obtained your consent to process personal data for specific, explicit and legitimate purposes.

You may request information about the criteria applied to determine our legitimate interests by contacting golf.club@novasbe.pt.

Who do we share personal data with?

In the course of its activities, Nova SBE Students’ Union shares personal data with processors, other controllers and joint controllers. These include the following:

  • Website hosting provider;
  • Tournament and cup organisers, including Bocconi & Friends Golf Cup, only in respect of players selected for an external tournament who choose to enter;
  • Social media platforms;
  • Online forms provider, used to receive registrations for events and tryouts;
  • Event venues, transport providers and insurers;
  • Public, judicial or administrative authorities, where there is a legal obligation to disclose your personal data.

Do we transfer personal data outside the EEA?

Some of our service providers are established, or process data, outside the European Economic Area (EEA). These transfers are carried out in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation. Where the destination country does not provide a level of protection equivalent to that of the European Union, Nova SBE Students’ Union ensures that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as an adequacy decision by the European Commission or, in its absence, the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the Commission.

You can obtain more information about these safeguards by contacting golf.club@novasbe.pt. The providers concerned are our website host, our online forms provider and the social media platforms we use.

How long do we keep personal data?

Nova SBE Students’ Union keeps personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected.

The retention periods applicable to each purpose are:

  • Website technical access data: for the period defined by the hosting service provider under its terms and internal privacy policies;
  • Enquiries from companies and other organisations: until the end of the academic year in which the enquiry was received or, where a sponsorship or partnership arrangement is concluded, for the duration of that arrangement and any period required by law thereafter;
  • Committee members’ information: for the duration of the member’s term and subsequently removed from the website within seven days after the member leaves the committee;
  • Event photographs: for as long as the event is being promoted and reviewed at the end of each academic year, when photographs no longer needed are deleted. Photographs that are not selected for publication are deleted within seven days of the event.
  • Event and tryout registration data: until the event or tryout to which the registration relates has taken place, after which the data is securely deleted within 7 (seven) days.

What are the rights of data subjects?

Data subjects may, at any time, exercise a set of rights under the terms and conditions provided for by law. These include the right to object, often exercised in relation to certain types of communication, as well as the rights of access, portability, erasure, restriction of processing and rectification. In addition, data subjects have the right to withdraw their consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

These rights may be exercised by e-mail to golf.club@novasbe.pt, the contact point designated by Nova SBE Students’ Union, or to the Union at clubs.su@novasbe.pt, or by post to the Union at Campus de Carcavelos, Rua da Holanda 1, 2775-405 Carcavelos. We will reply within one month of receiving your request.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority, Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados, at https://www.cnpd.pt/.

Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be updated. Data subjects will be informed within a reasonable period whenever the changes represent a fundamental change in the nature of the processing, such as a change in the purposes of the processing, a change in the identity of the controller or an extension of the categories of recipients.

The basics of using this website.

This website is run by NOVA Golf Club, a registered student club at Nova SBE, to share information about the club, its events, and how to get involved or partner with us. It is not an official page of Nova SBE or NOVA University Lisbon.

Content on this site, including text, photos and the club logo, belongs to NOVA Golf Club unless stated otherwise, and should not be reused elsewhere without asking first. Photos from club events may include identifiable students; if you appear in a photo and would like it removed, contact us and we will take it down.

Accessibility

We want this site to be usable for everyone, and we are still working on it.

NOVA Golf Club is a small, volunteer-run student club, and this site is maintained by students alongside their studies. We have tried to build it with accessibility in mind: clear text contrast, readable type sizes, a layout that works on mobile as well as desktop, and semantic structure so screen readers can navigate it.

This is not a formal accessibility audit, and there will be gaps we have not caught. If something on this site is hard to use, hard to read, or does not work with the assistive technology you use, please tell us. We will do our best to fix it, and student volunteer capacity means fixes may take time rather than happening immediately.

Report an accessibility issue to golf.club@novasbe.pt, with a description of the problem and, if possible, which page it is on and what device or software you were using.
